More on the death of Mary O. [Cummings] May.
IN MEMORIAM
Mrs. Nelson H. May died July 16, 1928.
Mrs. Mary O. May, a resident of Harrisville about 40 years, was born in Roxbury, New Hampshire, Nov. 24, 1844, daughter of J. Freeman and Daphna Cummings. Came to Michigan with her parents when a small child. Her girlhood was spent at Edge Hill, Duchess county, N. Y.; attended young ladies' seminary at Peekshill, Hughsonville, Fishhill and Paughkeepsie. Returned to Michigan when 17 years old, taught school in Croswell, Worth and Lexington townships. Married Nelson H. May, Aug. 20, 1865. Two children were born of this union, Ralph, who died in 1898, leaving one daughter, and Effie Dorr with whom she made her home for the past eight years.
Mrs. May's health gave way about 4 years ago. She lived an exemplary christian life, was by nature gentle and refined, and a kind and generous friend to all; her life was one of self-sacrifice and good deeds.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Dorr, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Harrisville Thursday afternoon, Rev. Charles Boyce officiating. Burial by the side of her husband at Springport.
Weep not that her trials are over,
Weep not that her race is run;
God grant we may rest as calmly
When our work, like hers, is done.
