RETIRES FROM COAST GUARD

Lt. Commander William E. Holmes retired from U. S. Coast Guard duty on May 1, after thirty years of service. He has been stationed in the Headquarters Building in Washington D. C. for several years past, making his home in Arlington, Virginia.
He entered the service at the Sturgeon Pointe Station. In 1918, during world War I, he served on patrol duty out of Norfolk, Virginia. He was transferred to Port Huron and then to Cleveland, and later was put in charge as Keeper of Middle Island Station. He was also in charge of the Port Huron and of the Marblehead, Ohio stations for several years before being transferred to the Headquarters office. During World War II as a Navy Commander, he was stationed at Berea, Italy, Calcutta, India and Antwerp, Belgium.
