Death of John Newell (19) on 4/30/1898 of consumption. Burial in Mt. Joy 5/3/1898.
HAYNES HAPPENINGS.
Death of John Newell.
Haynes, May 3, 1898.
Mr. John Newell passed away very quietly Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. Death was due to consumption. His father and mother were at his bedside besides his own family. Mr. Newell called for his beloved wife and for his father and mother a few minutes before his departure.
He would have been 30 years of age in a few weeks. He was a model young man and his death is a severe loss to the community where he was held in universal respect. By profession he was a school teacher, but had to give up about three years ago on account of ill health.
The funeral services were held Tuesday and were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Midlemiss of Alpena in the First Presbyterian church of Haynes, the interment taking place in Mt. Joy cemetery.
