Death of Matthew Carson on 12/15/1888.
Matthew Carson Receives a Sudden Call to Join the Silent Majority.
Matthew Carson, of Haynes township, died very suddenly Saturday evening. He had been cutting cedar that day and was seemingly in his usual good health. He retired to his bed shortly after supper, having made no complaint of feeling otherwise than perfectly well. About 9 o'clock he spoke to his wife, saying that he felt very sick at his stomach, and asked for some salt and water. He was unable to swallow the mixture, and, pushing it aside, remarked, "I guess I'm done for." At 10 o'clock he was dead. Evidence adduced at the inquest on Monday makes internal rupture, produced by over lifting, appear as the probable cause of death.
Mr. Carson was about 45 years of age, and had been a resident of this county many years. He leaves a wife and five children.
