Haynes, Jan. 26.--There are one hundred and eighty-seven dwelling houses and one hundred and eighty-seven families in the township of Haynes, also four school districts, two churches--one M. E. and the other Presbyterian, one light house and one life-saving station, four portable saw mills, three post offices--Alcona, Groleau, Mud Lake. There were 37 births and six deaths--one man killed on logging railroad and one committed suicide. There are 10 old soldiers and according to the census of last year 973 inhabitants.
Wm. Johnston built himself a new house last year--and did all the work--with a good stone foundation and a cellar that is second to none in the county for workmanship and neatness. Ed Miller also built himself a very neat one-story house in cottage style east of school house No. 1. Alex McNeil has built himself a barn. Mr. Thorner has erected a very neat cottage dwelling house for Mrs. D. McArthur on her farm. Mr. Robert Ritchie has built for himself a good substantial dwelling house at Henry Station on the line of the D. B. C. & A road.
