Picnic given by the Sturgeon Point Life Saving Station.
A large number of townspeople, including a majority of the Harrisville brass band with their instruments, went up to Sturgeon Pointe Tuesday for a holiday on invitation of Capt. Henderson. The Capt. and crew brought down the surf boat in the morning and a majority of the party were carried to the Pointe in her before a spanking breeze. The others went up overland by stage. The gentlemanly crew have the art of entertaining down to a fine point. They had cleared the station and tables were hastily improvised and the endless variety of palatable viands were spread thereupon. About 30 people sat around the festive board and helped to put the good things were they would do the most good. The afternoon was passed in dancing, croquet, seeing the sights and in social intercourse. The crew went through the boat drill. It was not until dusk that the last of the picknickers reached home. Of course everyone had a good time, excepting one unfortunate whose fate it was to get a touch of seasickness on the way up.
