THE SPRING ELECTIONS.
How they Have "Panned Out" in Alcona County.
The elections in this county last Monday were not very exciting, save only in the township of Alcona. In that township there were seven different tickets in the field, and the clamor for the more important offices, by the very large number of candidates interested, was remarkable for its high-toned spirit and all day prevalence. It is needless for us to mention the fact that the results of the election were positively unsatisfactory, in part, to those candidates who got effectually "scooped."

ALCONA.
Correspondence Review.
Alcona, April 3rd, 1878.
Dear Review:--The election is over and all is quiet in the township of Alcona, again. The pedigrees of the different candidates were raked and scraped up since the time their ancestors appeared in full dress, with nothing else on but a pair of garters. There have been things said on all sides which will rankle in the minds of many to the next election, and in some as long as they live. The following offices were the only ones that there was any interest manifested in by the electors: Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and Highway Commissioner. There were seven tickets in the field, and it was a mongrel concern all through. You could not pick out a man that could be depended on.
Herewith I send you the names of the lucky ones:
Supervisor--Adam T. Scarlett.
Clerk--Elison Milligan.
Treasurer--David Beard.
Justice, full term--Nicholas McNally.
Justice, to fill vacancy--David Beard.
Highway Com--John McDonald.
Sup't of Schools--Donald McNeil.
School Inspector--Nicholas McNally.
Drain Commissioner--Erastus Lee.
Constables--Wm. E. Towner, E. O. Cheney, Hiram F. M. Lyons, Ephraim Waldron.
There was the sum of one per cent raised on the dollar for highway purposes. There is four thousand four hundred dollars on hand in the Treasurer's office, or thereabout, according to the report of the Town Clerk; and highway orders command their face in trade, and are as good as gold. There is money in the general fund to meet all demands against it, and the township is a paying institution. No "white horses" any more. Yours as ever. A.
