Wheat in Alcona County.
Alcona county is "picking up." There are now 350 acres sown with wheat in that county. Truly "the wilderness shall blossom as a rose."--Evening News.
In commenting upon the above, the editor of the Saginawian, who knows whereof he speaks, says: "We absolve the "State News" editor of the News from all intention of doing injustice to Alcona county, and yet the inevitable impression on reading this item is that, as an agricultural section, the aforesaid county is of little account, while the fact is, it contains, in proportion to its extent, more acres of good farming land than any of the "shore" counties, and the agricultural interests there, checked for a time by the want of mills and markets, is making excellent progress. Concerning the unreliability of yearly State statistics as to lands and crops, neighbor Osman, of the News would become so thoroughly convinced in a few moments if he ever had occasion to investigate them seriously, that he would never again venture to coin a joke or predicate a business item on what might by chance or mischance happen to be printed therein."
