Capt. Sawyer Drowned.
It is our sad misfortune to chronicle the death of Capt. Joseph Sawyer, by drowning, which occurred near Rogers City Wednesday morning. Capt. Sawyer, in company with the captain of the life saving station at Forty Mile Point, and one of the station crew, while going from the point to Rogers in a small sail boat, were capsized by the gale, and the two captains drowned. Capt. Sawyer was Supt. of the U. S. life-saving service for the 10th district, and quite well known in this vicinity from his numerous visits here. His residence was in Detroit, and he was off on a tour of inspection at the time of his death.
