Mysterious Death.
Many of our citizens will no doubt remember a quite large, stout built, middle-aged man named David Thompson, who worked at the carpenters trade in this county last summer, who was frequently given to the immoderate use of intoxicating drinks. If we remember rightly he superintended the building of a barn for C. C. Briggs, and worked for various other parties in this township. However, it appears from the following clipping from a certain Canada paper, that he has sustained a mysterious death near Zurich, Ontario. The item is clipped from the Western Advertiser and Liberal:
Zurich, Ont., April 15.--The inquest on the body found yesterday was held by Drs. Stanbury and Buchanan. The body appeared to have been in the water since last fall, and was of a stout built, dark complexioned man about forty years of age. Papers found in his pocket show his name, David Thompson of Harrisville, Mich. There were also two prescriptions of Dr. J. V. White, of Oscoda, two bills of lumber, two grocery bills dated Nov. 5, a pocket knife, a small flask full of brandy, and a tobacco holder found on him. They body will be buried today.
The following letter was received by Postmaster Colwell of this place:
Zurich, April 15, 1882.
Postmaster, Harrisville, Mich.:
Sir--The body of a man was found in the lake about four miles from here yesterday, and judging from papers found on him I am led to believe his name was David Thompson, of Harrisville or Oscoda. Two prescriptions were found among the papers written by Dr. J. V. White, M. D., of Oscoda, to be filled by Mr. Hicks, druggist, of Harrisville. Lumber, store and other bills were also found.
Should you know any friends of such a party you can tell them that they can have a description and any particulars they may desire by addressing me. I examined the body and had it buried near here today.
Geo. Buchanan, M. D.,
Reeve of Hay,
Zurich P. O., Ont.
We hardly think the deceased had any relatives living in this county. We know of none, however.
