Jim Hazen, a character well known in Alcona county, died last Friday at Chiritree's hotel in the village of Oscoda. Hazen bore a reputation for remarkable ability as a toper. It was no feat at all for him to hold a pint flask of whiskey to his lips and drink it to the last drop, and a gallon of the fiery liquid was his regular daily portion at one time. Like many another man of his class, he had a soft spot in his heart and he was not a stranger to generous impulses. His death was caused, the Press says, by a fibrous growth in the larynx. He was 55 years of age. He had a wife and son in Canada but they had lived apart for years. He had enough money to pay for his funeral expenses.
