A trip to Sturgeon Point.
LOCAL JOTTINGS.
A pleasure seeking party, composed of Messrs. Geo. Burston, Geo. McRae and Thad Kneale, boarded the City of Cleveland Sunday morning, en route to Sturgeon Point, by the way of Harrisville, to visit the "boys " of the L. S. S. crew, of which Eugene Motley is captain. Their reception at the Point testified, beyond a doubt, that the boys of the crew were tickled to meet them, and the pleasure seekers report having had the jolliest time on record. Those "Merryman" rubber suits, belonging to the crew, (which are almost equal to life preservers) when donned by men, or boys either, not accustomed to them, afford considerable amusement for those standing on the bank. A novice in one of those suits, it is said, in order to keep right side up would require a pair of small anchors fastened to his feet. However, Mr. Burston, we are informed on the sly, having been prevailed on to do so, gave a free exhibition in one of these suits. His performances brought down the "house" several times. He was frequently and roundly applauded, although he could not, himself, at all times see where the laugh came in. The order and good taste with which the grounds are fitted up and arranged at the point, the paintings and artistic embellishments, in the boat house particularly, are reported by the visitors as being simply grand. They returned in the evening on the Mackinac. The manner in which they were treated during their visit will, no doubt, belong and gratefully remembered by them.--Alpena Labor Journal.
