ANOTHER ONE KILLED.
--------
R. A. McDonald was the Unfortunate Man.
R. A. McDonald, accompanied by Jas. McDonald, attended the special meeting of the board of supervisors last week for the purpose of petitioning that body in the interest of a new township organization to be called Caledonia. Their mission here accomplished they started to return home Saturday afternoon. They lived in the north half of town 28 north of range 8 east, and the nearest point on the railroad is Roe Lake, where they left the train expecting to walk home from that place. The first named man did not appear to be intoxicated when he left here but the reports that have reached this place state that he was so hopelessly under the influence of liquor that he laid down beside the track unable to proceed further. Engine No. 10, with a load of flats bound for the woods came along. The engineer did not notice McDonald until it was too late to stop the train. The engine passed him safely but the boxes that cover the axes on the flats caught him and dragged one leg under the wheels. This member was severed above the ankle; his collar bone was broken and he was injured internally. He died at 3 o'clock Sunday morning. The remains were taken to Black River.
The dead man was unmarried and about 45 years of age. He taught school in this township and was chiefly instrumental in getting the new township of Caledonia organized. He kept books a number of years ago for Wm. Conklin at Greenbush, and was possessed of more than ordinary ability.
