CLARENCE COWIE VICTIM
OF EXPLOSION AT DAM
Dies Sunday of Burns--Was Employed By Consumers Power Co.
Clarence Cowie died early Sunday morning at Big Rapids, Mich., from burns received in an explosion at Rogers dam of the Consumers Power Company.
Authentic particulars of the tragedy had not been received as this is written. One report says several other men were killed at the same time, while a dispatch from Big Rapids to a Grand Rapids paper states that one other man, George Rutledge, was seriously burned but would recover. Rogers dam is located on Muskegon river in Mecosta county.
The remains were taken to Hale, Iosco county, and the funeral was held there Wednesday.
Clarence Cowie was about 27 years of age and was a son of the late Dr. W. A. Cowie of Mikado. He had many friends in the county, and was very well known at Mikado and among the workmen at Bamfield Dam during the first work started there. He had a fine service record and his letters from overseas published in the Review were among the most eagerly read.
