A HEAVY WIND.
--------
Buildings Wrecked and Other Damage Done in Haynes.
--------
A wind and rain storm amounting almost to the proportions of a cyclone swept over a part of Haynes township Sunday afternoon, leaving shattered buildings, leveled fences, trees, etc. The storm came out of the northwest, starting near the farm of Jos. Elmes and moving southeastward. Fences and orchards on George Jack's farm and elsewhere in the path of the storm were blown away. A large frame barn on Ed Downie's farm was literally blown to pieces, one of the heavy purloin plates being blown ten rods away. A shed on Thos. Johnston's farm was similarly treated, and Dougall McLellan's barn was moved several feet off its foundation. The cupola and chimney of J. H. Johnson's house were torn from their places and scattered about. Tom Miller's wagon went on a horseless tour down the road and loose articles generally went flying through the air.
It was not a cyclone exactly but quite as near one as the people of that locality care to see.
