Death of John Earle Ferris; burial in Pinecrest Cemetery, Oscoda.
MURDER AT AU SABLE.
--------
John Ferris Shot by An Unknown Man on Steamboat Dock.
--------
John Ferris, aged 22 years, was shot and fatally wounded Tuesday night while performing his duties as attendant on the steamboat dock at AuSable.
The shooting was done by a stranger who arrived at AuSable on the early morning train and put up at the Yockey House.
The stranger called at the dock office and demanded Ferris' money. What took place after this is not known. Ferris was shot twice, one bullet passing through his abdomen. He had strength enough after the murderer had left him to call for a doctor over the phone. The doctor and others passed the stranger while on their way to the dock in response to Ferris' call, but they did not know what had happened, and so the murderer escaped. Ferris died at 1:00 Wednesday.
The man who did the shooting is described as about five feet 10 inches in height, smooth shaven, 35 or 40 years old, good looking, wears a derby hat and has a crook in his right arm.
