Our reporter made a tour of inspection at Sturgeon Point recently, looking for news. Among other things noted was the presence of three new gasoline boats owned by members of the service and each one is worthy of notice. Cap. Henderson has a fine large launch which he and Albert Kibbee built last winter. The craft is 27 feet over all with 8 ft. 10 in. beam, is equipped with a 10 H. P. engine and has a carrying capacity of 40 to 50 persons. It is supplied with all the conveniences a boat of its size requires, including a sail of ample dimensions. She is speedy and when the captain finishes making some changes he has in progress, he will have a fast boat. Sam Newell is about finishing a launch for Will Young, that promises to make the best of them look up. It is 20 ft. 4 in. over all with 5 ft. 7 in. beam, has white pine hull and oak upper works. It is roomy and will carry 10 or 12 people comfortably. A six H. P. engine is being installed and Will expects to skin all competition when he gets his craft to running. The other boat is a trim little craft being built by Add Silverthorn. It is 18 ft. by 5 ft. beam and is built in a way that admits of no criticism. The hull is of pine, and the interior of oak, pine, and birdseye maple, and is put together with a skill second to none. The lockers are conveniently arranged and every part of the boat is accessible by the drawing of a few screws. The engine has not been installed. When all three of these boats get to running we expect to hear of some great doings on the waters at Sturgeon Point.
