THE EVER GLORIOUS
--------
Big Crowd Celebrated at Sturgeon Point,
No Accidents Mar the Day.
--------
A big crowd of people spent the Ever Glorious at Sturgeon Point and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves to the limit. The day was ideal, plenty of sunshine and cool breezes and something doing all the time.
Those early on the ground saw the breeches-buoy drill, which was given in the forenoon, but the majority came just in time to unpack the baskets and have their picnic dinner in the grove.
After dinner some time was spent in rambling about the grounds, inspecting Uncle Samuel's buildings, and then the power boat races were called. There were to have been four contestants in this race, but Capt. Henderson took a load of people out for a ride and did not get back in time. Then in trying for position to start Will Young's and A. Silverthorn's boats collided and the latter was put temporarily out of commission. This left only the two, Young's and Tom Dean's and the latter won by several lengths.
Following the races the L. S. crew gave an exhibition drill, in which the life boat was rolled over several times.
Two good ball games were played, which lasted until it was time for the people to disperse for home. The first game was between Haynes and Harrisville juniors. The boys put up a stiff game in which Haynes put it over their opponents 9 to 4.
The score:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Haynes 0 2 1 0 0 2 4--9
Harrisville 2 0 0 0 1 1 0--4
Batteries: Harrisville, Beede, Michelson; Haynes, Teeple and Cade. Umpires, Miller and McArthur.
The second game was between pick-up teams from Harrisville and Sturgeon Point. This was a fast game and for several innings the fans were given an exhibition of the real article in base ball. The score:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Harrisville 1 0 0 0 3 2 0--6
Sturgeon Point 0 0 0 0 2 4 x--6
Batteries: Harrisville, Barber and North, Killmaster and Barber; Point, Dean and Cade. Umpires Chapelle, Webb.
In the evening there was bowery dancing, which was well patronized by the young people, who remained until a late hour.
It was a day well spent, the Point people did everything possible to entertain the crowd, and there were no accidents to mar the pleasure.
