HARRISVILLE BUSINESS MAN DIES SUDDENLY ON SUNDAY
--------
Abram McClatchey Stricken With Heart Failure--Was Old Resident
--------
The sudden death of Abram McClatchey, prominent business man and old resident, Sunday morning at his home in this city from heart failure, came as a great shock to the family and to the community.
Mr. McClatchey had had his breakfast and finished up his chores and returned to the house, where he sank unconscious at the threshold. Mrs. McClatchey, who was alone in the house at the time, heard a noise and went to investigate; she arrived just in time to see her husband sink to the floor. She applied restoratives and summoned assistance, but Mr. McClatchey never regained consciousness and died in a few minutes.
Mr. McClatchey had lived in Harrisville over forty years, coming from southern Michigan where he was born on May 3rd, 1858. He early entered the meat business and conducted a market here for many years. He was associated for five years in the 80s with Thos. W. Green under the name of McClatchey & Green and they did an extensive business in meats and groceries here and at Black River. When the firm dissolved, Mr. McClatchey continued his market until in 1911 he permanently retired from the retail business, being then in partnership with Geo. H. Ferguson. He then gave practically his whole attention to buying and shipping stock, in which business he had been engaged to a greater or lesser extent during his whole business career. He was one of the pioneer stock buyers and had dealings in every part of the county. He owned a block of the finest land in the county, located in Alcona township, which he operated in connection with his stock business.
In 1878 Mr. McClatchey was united in marriage with Elizabeth Rivard, who died in 1897. Of this union one son and three daughters survive: Thomas of Harrisville, Mrs. Andrews Ferguson of Elsie, Mich.; Mrs. Roy McLeod of Harrisville, and Mrs. Milton Warren of Detroit.
In 1898 Mr. McClatchey married Mrs. Charlotte Sisson, who survives. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Moses and Albert of Detroit, and one sister, Mrs. J. Wm. Anderson of Harrisville.
All of the foregoing were present at the funeral, which was held Tuesday afternoon from the home, being conducted by the Rev. Fred A. Andrews. Interment was made in the family lot in the West cemetery.
Other relatives present from out of town were, Mrs. Albert McClatchey and children of Detroit, Andrew Ferguson and sons of Elsie, Milton Warren of Detroit; also Miss Ida Peterson of Detroit, Charles Sisson and Paul Reynolds of Cleveland.
