OPEN WINTER PROPHETS NOT A LEG LEFT TO STAND ON
--------
Tuesday-Wednesday Storm Worst Experienced Here in Years.
--------
The "open winter" prophets have been gradually losing out for several weeks and Tuesday night the few shreds remaining of their somewhat doubtful reputation disappeared entirely and consideration of their prognostications has been entirely eliminated from things meteorological.
There have been worse storms, of course, than that which prevailed Tuesday night, Wednesday and is still in progress as the Review goes to press, but they have not occurred in recent years in this particular locality.
Starting from the southeast the elements gradually gathered force as the direction swung around to the northeast and settled down into a real "old time." About midnight six inches of snow had fallen and the wind was howling at a high pitch--a fact that can be vouched for by many pedestrians who were hunting their way home from various social functions.
Wednesday morning the storm was at its height. All trains were from a half to two hours late. It was a holiday for Uncle Sam's mail carriers (Washington's birthday) so their vain attempt to make the rounds can not be chronicled. During the day the temperature, which had not at any time been very low, gradually mounted and as this is written it is a question whether we shall have snow or rain--with prospects in favor of the rain.
All of which is here recorded in order that future generations may know of this riot of the elements on Feb. 22, A. D. 1922, and that our friends residing in less favored climates may also become informed thereof.
