TWO BUILDINGS BURN IN HAYNES

McArthur Home and Presbyterian Church Go Up.

The farm home of W. J. McArthur and the Presbyterian church of Haynes were totally destroyed Thursday by fire which originated in the McArthur dwelling. There was no insurance on the house and only $400 on the church which was valued at between $3,000 and $4,000.
Rev. C. M. Boyce, pastor of the church had been supervising the installing of a lighting system in the church and was a dinner guest at the McArthur home. They were just sitting down to the table when fire was discovered in the roof where it had been started by sparks from the chimney. Every effort was made to save the building but it was a hopeless task and the workers soon turned to saving the contents.
The high wind carried the brands 30 rods to the church which was soon ablaze. A crew of men engaged in wrecking the M. E. church building at Yuill's corners rushed to the scene and aided the neighbors in fighting the blaze. The high wind and the inadequate apparatus rendered their efforts to save the church unavailing. The greater part of the contents of both buildings was saved.
The loss falls heavily upon Mr. McArthur and the destruction of the church leaves Haynes without a building of any kind for church purposes. The Methodist church at Yuill's corners had just been sold to the Fisher Grange and the day of the fire a crew was engaged in tearing down the building preparatory to moving it to the Grange lot in the Fisher district.
Whether or not the Presbyterians will rebuild is not yet decided. Rev. Boyce will present the situation at a public meeting to be held Friday evening, June 20th, in Johnson schoolhouse, at which time the citizens will be given an opportunity to express their sentiments.
