Dr. Stephen S. Ludlum Suffers Heart Attack--Was 66 Years of Age

The following dispatch from Mason appeared in The State Journal, Lansing. Dr. Ludlum was located in Harrisville prior to 1896, when he removed to Southern Michigan.
Friends of Dr. Stephen S. Ludlum were shocked to hear of his death at his residence on State street, about 11 o'clock, Wednesday, Dec. 4. Dr. Ludlum came to Mason in the spring of 1925 from East Lansing where he had owned a drug store, previous to that he had practiced in Howell. He was 66 years of age, having been born in Seneca Falls, N. Y. his parents coming to Ovid Mich., when he was a young boy. He graduated from Ovid schools and entered the University of Michigan Medical school at the age of 18, graduated at 21. On account of his youth he was refused a certificate to practice medicine until he had served an apprenticeship with his father who was also a physician. In 1885 Dr. Ludlum was married to Ella Coleman of Howell and to this union two sons have been born, Dr. L. C. Ludlum of Lansing and R. M. Ludlum of Detroit, also four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the residence Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, with burial in the family mausoleum at Ovid.
Dr. Ludlum has been in poor health since in August, but was not considered dangerous until he had a bad heart attack Sunday night, this was followed by a second attack Tuesday night, Wednesday morning he felt better than usual, before the attack that took him away.
