Worst storm in history.
ALCONA VISITED BY MOST SEVERE STORM IN HISTORY, TUESDAY
--------
Alcona County came in for more than its' share of the cold and snow that swept down from the Canadian Northwest, Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday. All roads in the County, including US23 and M-72 were leveled by the drifting snow. North bound traffic was held up at Oscoda until Wednesday night, when the Alpena County Road Commission sent three plows to the rescue, and with the Alcona plow succeeded in opening M-72 to Oscoda. The Alpena plows opened U.S. 23 to Lincoln. From Lincoln to Harrisville had been opened by a State plow with the aid of the Alcona County Road Commission Plow. One of the County plows was buried in snow, banked 12 feet, solid drifts, at Yuill's Corner in Haynes' since Tuesday, and had to be dug out by hand labor Thursday. High winds on Wednesday made shoveling useless.
Three State Plows are stranded on US-23 south of Mikado.
The plows have been working night and day, but it will take some time to clear the roads through-out the county.
