Hubbard Lake Youth Struck by Lightning
--------
ROYAL OAK BOY SAVES LIFE OF COMPANION
--------
Morris Cornelius, aged 19 years, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Bennett, of Bennett's Tavern, Hubbard Lake, today owes his life to Robert J. Benson, aged 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Benson, of 1622 Roseland avenue, Royal Oak, Michigan, whose effective training in first aid and life saving received at High school enabled him to save Cornelius.
Three young people, Cornelius, Robert Benson, and Ethel Benson, aged 18, were playing croquet on the lawn at Bennett's later Friday afternoon when a bolt of lightning out of a cloudy sky struck the group, felling all by the shock. Cornelius was rendered unconscious, his hair burned to a crisp and the back of his neck burned.
Physicians called to the scene stated that Benson undoubtedly saved Cornelius' life. The injured youth is in satisfactory condition and physicians pronounce him out of danger.
The bolt which struck on the grounds shook the adjacent territory for several miles alarming vacationers in the area. Had the grounds been wet, the three would probably have been killed outright. As it was no rain fell until the storm broke about a half hour after the accident.
