SERVICES TO BE CONDUCTED
FRIDAY FOR HENRY HOLMES
--------
Henry Holmes, a resident of Alcona County for over fifty years, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 5, at his home five miles north of Harrisville. Death resulted from the infirmities of age. His illness had extended over a period of ten months, although he was confined to his bed very little during that time.
Mr. Holmes was born in Ferry-Bridge, Yorkshire, England, on June 30, 1866, one of ten children of the late William and Jane Holmes. He grew to manhood in England and in September, 1895 he married Elizabeth J. Pierson at Bingley, England. They came to this country following their marriage, settling in Alcona County where two of his brothers from England had previously settled. They lived in the Alvin District until 1905 when they purchased the J. E. Henderson farm and home on the north shore road, which had been his home since that time. Mrs. Holmes died in September 1918.
Surviving are eight children, two sons and six daughters. They are William E. Holmes of Arlington, Virginia; J. H. Holmes of Harrisville; Mrs. V. V. Hill (Norma), of Detroit; Mrs. Lester Somers (Bertha) of Harrisville; Mrs. Leslie Lilley (Lillian) of Flint; Mrs. E. W. Chapelle (Ethel) of Harrisville; Mrs. Victor Clark (Estella) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Mrs. Clarence MacGregor (Elsie) of Harrisville. A sister, Mrs. Thos. Martin of Manchester, England; nineteen grand children and four great grandchildren also survive.
The body will be at the home until 12:00 noon Friday when it will be taken to the Harrisville Methodist Church and will lie in state until the hour of service, 2:00 p.m. Rev. Horace James, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will take place in the family plot in Mt. Joy Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Holmes, Herbert Holmes, Ross Teeple, Fred Walker, James and Kenneth Holmes.
