Killed In Train Accident

Sgt. Ernest J. Dellar eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dellar of Harrisville Township, was killed in a train crash at Michigan, North Dakota, Thursday of last week. He was enroute to Great Falls, Montana where he was assigned from Romulus.
Sgt. Dellar had left his parental home here Monday morning after a 30-day furlough and reported at Romulus Air Base. He was then granted a 24-hour pass and spent Monday night with his sister, Mrs. Edw. Green in Detroit.
He entered the army in May 1942. Following training with the air transport command, he left for overseas on January 29, 1943. He was stationed on the west coast of Africa during his overseas service. He returned home July 9, 1945.
Ernest was born in Harrisville Township on June 2, 1907. He graduated from Harrisville High School and was president of the Senior class in 1926. He made his home in Flint where he was employed, prior to entering the army.
The body arrived by train Thursday night and funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the home. Burial in Springport Cemetery. Rev. Arnold Sherman officiating.
Surviving relatives besides the bereaved parents are one brother, Lawrence, of Gustin Township, and three sisters, Mrs. Edw. Green, Elsie and Helen Dellar.
