Illness Fatal To Russell H. Sterling Of Greenbush

Friends were saddened to learn of the death of Russell H. Sterling of Greenbush. Mr. Sterling passed away at 6:20 p. m. Tuesday evening, December 28, at the Alpena General Hospital where he had been taken Monday night. Previous to that he had been a patient at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor and in a Bay City Hospital at different times during the past year. He had been in ill health for over five years.
Russell Herman Sterling was born in Kent County, Ontario, on March 23, 1889. He lived in Canada until about 1910 when he came to Detroit. He married Margaret McPherson at Chatham, Ontario, on February 5, 1915. The family came to Greenbush from Detroit in June 1932 and have resided there since that time.
Mr. Sterling was a builder and carpenter by trade, having built Alcona Beach and other buildings in this area. Fraternally he was a Past Master in Alcona Lodge No. 292, F. & A. M., at Harrisville and was an active member in the Harrisville Lions Club.
Surviving are his widow and two sons, Stanley Glenn Sterling at home and Stuart Russell Sterling of Harrisville. A daughter, Jean Margaret, died in Detroit in 1932. His mother, Mrs. Margaret Sterling, 83, and his uncle, James H. Graham, 89, survive and live in Bleimhein, Ontario. Also surviving are three brothers and five sisters: Graham Sterling of Detroit, Carl Sterling of London Ontario, and Melville Sterling of Appen, Ontario; Mrs. Alex Everett of Chatham, Ontario, Mrs. Chas. Mills and Mrs. Henry Pierce of Appen, Ontario, and Mrs. Ernest Baxter and Mrs. Clarence Jones of St. Thomas, Ontario.
Funeral rites will be under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. The body will be at the Smith Funeral home until 12:00 noon Friday, when it will be taken to the Harrisville Methodist Church and will lie in state until the hour of the services at 2:00 o'clock p. m. Rev. H. James will officiate. Interment in Springport Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Past Masters of the Lodge, Duncan McRae, George Ferguson, Joseph Baror, Arthur McIntyre, J. H. Holmes and Milo N. Johnson.
