SCHROEDER--CONKLIN
The altar of the Harrisville Methodist Church was banked with baskets of white gladioli and red roses on Saturday evening for the candlelight ceremony which united in marriage Reeta Ann Conklin, daughter of the Stuart Conklins of Harrisville, and Edward J. Schroeder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schroeder of Lincoln. Rev. Horace James performed the double ring ceremony at eight o'clock in the presence of more than one hundred relatives and friends. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Satin ribbon bows marked the pews for the family members.
Reeta Ann was wearing a white summer taffeta gown designed with a fitted bodice with a yoke of net, long pointed sleeves and a full skirt ending in a train. A tiara of net and orange blossoms held in place the finger tip length illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses, bebe mums and pink roses.
Jean Conklin was her sister's maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Sue Conklin, another sister, and Audrey Ferris of Lincoln, a cousin of the bride. They wore identically made gowns, Jean in yellow, Sue in orchid and Audrey in blue. The were of taffeta and were fashioned in colonial design with hoop skirts, net ruffle trim on neckline and skirt, and short puff sleeves. They wore matching heart-shaped crown hats. The maid of honor carried a bouquet of talisman roses and white carnations, tied with multi-color ribbons with streamers. The bridesmaids carried colonial bouquets of yellow roses and white carnations.
Allan Schroeder of Lincoln was his brother's best man. The ushers were James Somers of Harrisville and Gerald McDonald of Lincoln.
Kaye Louise Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmitt of Milan, Michigan, and a cousin of the groom, was flower girl. She wore a white taffeta gown fashioned the same as the bridesmaids, with a headdress of white net and rosebuds. She carried a basket of white and red roses.
During the service "O Promise Me" was sung by Russell Sterling. Miss Marion Olds played the wedding march and was accompanist for the soloist.
For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Conklin wore navy crepe with white accessories. Mrs. Schroeder also wore a navy crepe. Each wore a corsage of white and red roses.
Larson's Beach on the east shore of Hubbard Lake was the scene of the reception and dinner which followed the service. One hundred and twenty-eight were seated at the tables, which were prettily decorated with crystal bowls of ivy and lighted candles. White mock orange blossoms from the garden of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Conklin, were interspersed with the ivy and completed the decoration. The bride's table featured a beautiful three-tier bride's cake topped with miniature figurines of a bride and groom. Dancing followed the dinner.
After a short wedding trip the happy young couple are now making their home at 500 W. Midland Street in Bay City. The groom, who is a graduate of Oscoda High School, is employed in Saginaw. The bride, a Harrisville High School graduate, is an X-ray Technician and is employed at Mercy Hospital in Bay City.
Guests at the wedding were present from Bay City, Detroit, Saginaw, Milan, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, Lincoln, Mikado, West Branch and Royal Oak.
Several pre-nuptial showers were given the bride and they received many lovely wedding gifts.
