Married At Lincoln Methodist Church
The Lincoln Methodist Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding Saturday afternoon at on-thirty o'clock when Audrey Ferris spoke her marriage vows to Richard D. Durfee. Rev. Horace James, pastor of the church, performed the double-ring ceremony before an altar banked with evergreens and baskets of white gladioli and hydrangea. Lighted candles completed the setting.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ferris of Lincoln and the groom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otho Durfee of West Branch.
Entering the church on the arm of her father who gave her in marriage, the bride was lovely in a wedding gown of sheer marquisette over taffeta. It was fashioned with a high round neckline, rose pointe lace forming a yoke and cap sleeves, with a fitted bodice. A full skirt ended in a train. A beautiful finger-tip veil edged with rose pointe lace was held in place by a tiara of net and seed pearls. Her only accessory was a single strand of pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white sweetpeas and white carnations.
Miss Carol Ferris, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Her gown was of pastel green silk, with a bustle effect hoop skirt. She wore a matching lace-trimmed hat and elbow length gauntlets. Miss Yvonne Durfee, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid, who ware an identical gown of pink silk with matching hat and gauntlets. Their cascade bouquets were of pink and white carnations fastened with multicolor ribbon bows. Little Carol Jo Crawford of West Branch, a cousin of the groom, was flower girl. She wore a floor-length gown of white taffeta with hoop skirt. It was fashioned similar to the bride's gown. She wore a headdress of white ribbon and net, and carried a small white umbrella filled with sweet peas and rose petals which she strew along the white carpeted aisle to the altar.
The groom's attendants were his brother, Otho Durfee of West Branch, and Donald Reed of Lincoln. Ushers were Arthur Crawford of West Branch, uncle of the groom, and Robert McConnell of Detroit, cousin of the bride.
For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Ferris chose an ensemble of navy blue and white. Mrs. Durfee wore a rose print silk with white accessories.
Miss Nancy Meade presided at the piano. A vocal duet, "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms" was sung by Mrs. E. C. Nieman and Miss Nettie Goheen.
The church dining room was prettily decorated in pink and white for the reception which was held from four to six o'clock. The bride's table was centered with a bouquet of pink and white carnations flanked by lighted tapers. A three-tiered wedding cake was topped by miniature figurines of a bride and groom. The ladies of the W. S. C. S. served.
The happy young couple left on a wedding trip to the Upper Peninsula. For her going away costume the bride wore a navy blue silk shantung suit, with light blue accessories. They will make their home in Lincoln where the groom is employed as towerman by the State Conservation Department.
