George B. Vinson Burned
To Death In Millen Home
--------
The body of George B. Vinson, 79, was discovered in the ruins of his home early Friday morning by neighbors. Fire of undetermined origin had levelled the building located 20 miles west of Harrisville on M72 and 1 1/2 miles south, in Millen Township.
Mr. Vinson had returned to his home from a visit in Glennie. A Mr. Raby, who has trapped fox in the vicinity of the Vinson home gave him a ride, and that was the last time he was seen alive. He lived alone in his three-room cottage.
Coroner Duran Smith at first thought that Mr. Vinson had met with foul play. Prosecuting Attorney Russell Hughes and State Police officers from the Alpena Post, along with Sheriff Adair, made a thorough investigation. The body was taken to Saginaw where a pathologist gave a decision that death was caused from suffocation by fire.
The officers said that what appeared to be a bullet wound in Vinson's head could have been caused by a fall against a cookstove alongside of which the body was found. The condition of the body prevented definite determination of the nature of the wound.
