LOYER--MIKS
Miss Sophia Miks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Miks, and Lester Loyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Loyer, of Mikado, spoke their marriage vows in a pretty church wedding at St. Raphael Church, Mikado, at ten o'clock Saturday morning. Rev. A. Narloch performed the ceremony before an altar decorated with colored gladioli. The seats were marked with white ribbons.
The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a gown of heavy white satin, fashioned with long sleeves, dropped shoulders with neckline of white sheer nylon. A full hooped skirt was caught at the bottom with large groups of seed pearls, and was outlined with white lace. A six foot train fell from the waist. Her fingertip veil fell from a sweetheart bonnet type hat decked with seed pearls to match her dress. She wore a gold cross and carried a bouquet of white roses tied with white satin ribbon. She carried a white rosary, a gift from the groom.
Mrs. Ted Nowicki, sister of the bride, acted as matron of honor. Her gown was sky blue rayon satin with full net skirt. She wore a large garden hat and carried carnations. Mrs. Howard Barber, sister of the bride, and Loena Loyer, sister of the groom, were bridesmaids. They wore identically made gowns and hats as the matron of honor's, in pink and yellow respectively. Each wore a two strand pearl necklace, gifts of the bride.
Lavern Loyer, brother of the groom, was best man. Stanley Waszkiewiez, a brother-in-law, and Carl Miks, brother of the bride, were the other attendants. Each was given an initialed tie clasp, gifts of the groom. Ushers were Gerald McDonald and Carl Badenhoop.
Marianne Waszkiewiez, niece of the groom and Suzanne Miks, niece of the bride were flower girls. They wore white organdy gowns, made identically as the attending girls'. They carried baskets of white carnations with floor-length streamers. Each wore a Mother of Pearl necklace with their initial, which were gifts of the bride.
Mrs. Miks wore a gray print dress with black accessories. The groom's mother wore royal blue with black accessories. Each wore a corsage of white carnations. The grandmother on either side wore corsages of red roses.
A photographer from VanDyke, Michigan, took pictures during the ceremony and group pictures were taken in Alpena.
A reception was held at the bride's parental home. A buffet style dinner was served with one-hundred and fifty guests present. A three-tier wedding cake was topped by a miniature bride and groom.
A dance was held at the Mikado Hall in the evening with music by the High School Orchestra.
Mr. and Mrs. Loyer will reside in Mikado, where he owns and operates a gas station.
