John E. Atchison Dies In
Flint At Age Of 101

John E. Atchison, aged 101 years, died Saturday, September 5 at the home of a nephew, Clark Atchison, 146 E. Gracelawn Avenue, Flint. He had been ill for about six weeks and death resulted from infirmities of old age.
He had been active until his last illness, and always a baseball enthusiast, he had listened to radio broadcasts each day until the day before his death. At the age of eighty years he learned to play the violin "by ear" and played extremely well until illness prevented.
Mr. Atchison was born on November 15, 1847 in Prescott, Oxford Township, Ontario. He was the son of the late Andrew and Jeanette Atchison. At the age of 15 years he moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he later owned and operated a Carriage Factory. He retired in 1918 and came to Harrisville where he made his home until 1945. His marriage to Rose L. Taft took place in Chicago, Illinois in 1911. Mrs. Atchison died on January 18, 1945. He then went to live with his nephews, William Atchison in Harrisville Township and later Clark Atchison in Flint.
He was a member of the Send-day Adventist Church of which he was a Rector for over 25 years.
Nieces and nephews surviving are: Mr. and Mrs. Clark Atchison, Flint; Mr. William Atchison, Mr. John Atchison and Mrs. Alger Anderson, Harrisville; Mrs. Rolla Bennett, Bay City; Mrs. T. H. Alexander and Mrs. Paul Schmidt, Detroit; Mrs. Nellie McIntosh, Nepawin, Saskatchewan, and Mrs. Edw. Bruder, Midland.
The body was brought to the Smith Funeral Home in Lincoln where funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday. Rev. H. James of Harrisville officiated and burial took place in Springport Cemetery, Harrisville.
Pallbearers were Dean Plew, Milo Effrick, Alger Anderson, Marvin Atchison, Jos. Specht and John Stockton.
