Fred Brown Dies In
Accident At Oscoda
--------
Oscoda--Fred Brown, 51, Oscoda contractor and outdoorsman, was killed instantly Monday noon when he was crushed between the frame and dump box of the dump truck he was operating.
Brown was unloading dirt in the driveway at the Sid Mead home when the accident happened. State police from East Tawas post and deputy Sheriff Charles Niday, of Oscoda, believe that he was attempting to jar loose the last part of the load in the box by beating on the bottom with a stick. The hydraulic lift loosened, crushing Brown before he could escape.
Born at Amery, Wis., October 11, 1897, Brown had lived at Harrisville from 1923 until 1942, when he came to Oscoda, making his home on Van Ettan Lake. He was married to the former Miss Florence Johnson at Tawas in 1932. Others who survive include four brothers, John and James of Oscoda, Lou of Ashland, Wis., and Joseph of Hayward, Wis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Anne Church, Harrisville, with burial in St. Anne's Cemetery. Rev. Narloch officiated.
